The Rancher Takes a Wife

THE RANCHER TAKES A WIFE

Desiree looked at him oddly. "Why are you here? I left town just like the deputy warned me."
He grabbed her by the arms and pulled her within inches of him. "Let's get right to the problem. You took my mother's wedding ring and I want it back."
"I don't know what you're talking about," she said, twisting in his arms trying to get away.
"Yeah, and next you'll be telling me you're Florence Nightingale."
"Look Cowboy, I don't know what you're talking about. I didn't take your mother's wedding ring."
Grass green eyes met and held his gaze unwavering. Damn, she was so good at lying that he almost believed her.
"Your mother paid my fine and got me out of jail. She followed me home, and while I packed, she tried to persuade me to move out to your ranch."
She was definitely lying. "My mother would never ask you to move to our ranch."
"You and your mother obviously need to sit down and get to know each other. You don't agree on anything."
"We agree on one thing. Where's her wedding ring?"

REVIEWS for THE RANCHER TAKES A WIFE

This story kept me amused as the gypsish heroine went all out to keep the hero in a constant state of upheaval. Much to my delight, as he was a tad arrogant and needed to be brought down a peg or two and this heroine did it quite nicely. Her antics had him falling for her in spite of what he thought of her wrong doings. They were great together! I do look forward to the rest of this trilogy as I am curious to see what lengths Mama Burnett will go to have her other sons wedded as well. She is definitely an interesting character!

I enjoyed the book so much! I laughed and laughed, and read it in 2 sittings, not wanting to put it down. You're characters were so well done, and I really look forward to reading the next two in the series.

THE RANCHER TAKES A WIFE is full of witty, entertaining dialogue. The characters are well developed, consistent in their actions, believable, and keep you guessing as to what they will do next. The secondary characters are full of life, especially that of Travis' mother, Eugenia, who only wants to see her sons settle down and give her grandchildren. The descriptive narrative takes you right into the old west. While the plot of two people who fight like cats and dogs but are attracted to one another has been done many times, Ms McDaniel has made it fresh and entertaining with this story of a medium and her cowboy. The story moves along at a nice ace and it held my interest.

THE RANCHER TAKES A WIFE is a delightful read! It is the first in a new series, THE BURNETT BRIDES and this book left me lighthearted and eagerly awaiting the next two installments of the BURNETT BRIDES SERIES, THE OUTLAW TAKES A WIFE, January 2001 and THE MARSHAL TAKES A WIFE, July 2001. I can highly recommend THE RANCHER TAKES A WIFE for an uplifting way to spend an afternoon!
